Tree Surgery

If you have a tree at your property that looks dangerous with dead branches creaking in the wind, leaning to one side, has been damaged by storm, is getting too big or dead/dying then you may be advised on one or more of the following procedures to deal with the problem.

Crown Lift

The lowest branches are cut off, leaving higher head room under the tree. This will be carried out specifically over footpaths and car parks so that the public and vehicles have unobstructed access and sightlines in those areas. If your tree overhangs a boundary onto a public highway or footpath you may be asked by the local council to lift the tree to the statutory recommendation of 17ft for a highway and 8ft for a footpath. Also handy for when you have to duck when mowing!!

Crown Thin

This procedure takes out some of the branches within the canopy . This not only takes away the ‘sail’ effect of the tree but also takes out quite a bit of weight so if your tree is leaning it may not be necessary to remove it completely. It also allows more light within the tree and gives you more light in the garden or house.

Crown Reduction

This is when the canopy is reduced in height and/or by width. This is carried out when your tree is getting too big for the space it has been planted (or seeded itself!) in, or if the specimen is growing over or towards buildings.

Crown Maintenance

To cut out all major dead wood, crossing and diseased branches. This is to keep the tree’s health in check. Only the healthier branches are left so the risk of debris falling in your garden, the car.........or the children!

Pollard

To remove all branches back to the main stem.

With all of the above procedures consideration to the shape of the tree is always given so that a natural shape is achieved.

Dismantling to ground level

This is carried out when it is required to removed the tree completely. If there is restricted working space, say between buildings or near public areas, then the tree will be cut into manageable pieces and lowered down. A stump will be left above ground level.

Felling

When there is a large area with no risk of damage to the surrounding area (or people!) the tree will be felled to ground level. This is still a precise operation and requires skill and experience. As with dismantling, a stump will be left above ground level.

Hedge Cutting

This could be a trim to tidy or a reduction in height and/or width. It can be as big or small as they come! We can also offer advice on the ‘High Hedges’ legislation.

All work is carried out with great care so as not to cause damage or destruction to the surrounding area and the site area is cleared and tidied.
